Tokyo Neon Lights by Liam Wong

Story by

Photographer and computer game designer Liam Wong caught my attention today.

On his Instagram profile he showcases some brilliant compositions from the streets of bustling Tokyo at night. The lighting of the neon-lit sceneries is enhanced with post effects, giving Wong’s Tokyo a distinct surreal feel.

These shots could be straight out of some futuristic computer game or movies like Blade Runner or the mind-bending Gaspar Noé flick Enter the Void. Some of the locations are so fantastic it’s hard to believe they really exist. It was no surprise for me to find out Wong works as a designer for gaming giant Ubisoft.

Wong uses compact DSLR cameras for his work. Images are shot in raw and enhanced in Lightroom.

Looking at this feed stirs up my imagination. I want to be dragged right into the images and into a fictional crime plot unfolding in this nocturnal city of mystery. Enjoy my favorites of Liam Wong’s Tokyo impressions below. For more follow Liam Wong on Instagram.

“This is the worst toilet in Japan, I won’t specify where as it would be spoiling the surprise.”
