Sophie-Alexia Joly de Lotbinière

Story by

I have to admit that’s one of the most badass french names I’ve heard in a long time. Being born with a name like Sophie-Alexia Joly de Lotbinière you can imagine the pressure to be really good if you ever mentioned to anyone that you wanted to be an artist.

Sophie-Alexia took her craft seriously from the beginning and spent time studying painting in Florence Italy at Charles H. Cecil Studios and then graduated from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts and Tufts University and went on to get her masters at the Sotheby’s Institute in London. Needless to say she knows art and it shows.

I first came across her work a few weeks ago and fell in love with her compositions. Her understanding of color and movement spills across her canvas, and each piece seems to illustrate a palette of different emotions. As you can see they have inspired me because I’m having flashbacks from my days in art school, using extravagant vocabulary to describe her paintings.

However, the work speaks for itself, and one doesn’t need to know the artists’ education to know you are in the presence of something special. Please enjoy some of my favorite pieces and make sure to visit Sophie-Alexia’s site to see more and purchase her work.
