Amanda Charchian is an L.A.-based fine artist.
Her portfolio includes photography, sculpture and film. I will focus on her photography in this feature.
Amanda has an incredible skill to make a surreal impact on your senses. To achieve that she puts emphasis on location scouting, image compositions and light effects. Some post-production magic and color adjustment do the rest.
Nature and female eroticism are predominating her works. I can’t help but bring in a man’s perspective when reviewing Amanda’s art. And I rarely find the female-on-female sensitivity that Amanda displays here unlocked by a male artist to the same degree… Amanda manages to keep her distance while being intimate at the same time.
Amanda’s nude photography displaces the protagonists in a way that we haven’t seen before.
What stands out is Amanda’s ability to create atmospheres of confusion with total tranquility. It is this contrast that drags you into her images and makes you feel like you have crash-landed on another planet. Amanda’s protagonists seem displaced. She frames them with bizarrely beautiful landscapes in which they appear to sleepwalk through Amanda’s fantasy.
Besides her artistic ambitions Amanda also does commission work. For more info, visit her website.
Although this is very tasteful material we’d like to warn you the below isn’t safe for work. So make sure your boss isn’t peeking over your shoulder before proceeding to scroll down. Actually, you know what? Go get him. He needs to WITNESS THIS.
