Ben Howard has been around for a while and has always been a singer/songwriter that has kept me interested. Not until lately however could I not resist wanting to call attention to this UK based artist. His new EP Burgh Island releases tomorrow and I urge you to check it out. With his first single Burgh Island featuring Monica Heldal, I was immediately hooked. I get the feeling of being lost at sea, or on a grand lake, it’s foggy and cold, and I can hear the guitar riffs drifting in and out of my surroundings. Eerie yet soothing, sad yet thoughtful. It’s difficult to pinpoint exactly what his sound reminds me of and that could be because it’s something we haven’t heard before. Ben seems to channel a bit of his English folk roots, yet embraces a sound new to this genre. Regardless it’s powerful and some of the most thoughtful music I’ve heard in a long time.
